Ragging
Ragging is a form of physical, mental, or emotional abuse or harassment perpetrated by senior students on newer students, typically in educational institutions such as colleges or universities. It often involves humiliating, intimidating, or subjecting new students to various forms of harassment, such as verbal abuse, forced tasks, or even physical violence. Ragging can have serious consequences, including psychological trauma, physical injury, and in extreme cases, even death. It creates a hostile and unhealthy environment that undermines the well-being and academic success of students.
Additionally, ragging is illegal and violates the rights and dignity of individuals. It is essential for educational institutions to have strict anti-ragging policies in place and to take proactive measures to prevent and address instances of ragging effectively. Creating a culture of respect, empathy , and inclusion is crucial in combating ragging and promoting a safe and supportive learning environment for all students. Please refer to “UGC Regulations on Curbing the Menace of Ragging in Higher Educational Institutions, 2009” on the website of the UGC www.ugc.ac.in.
